A Bequest to Further Good Work
David: The work of our favorite charity was important to us. We regularly made cash gifts but wanted to do more. We received the Community Foundation's newsletter and noted that we could make a gift from our estate and provide sustainable support to the causes we care about.
Nancy: We met with our lawyer to revise our wills, and we each included a provision for a gift to a Legacy Fund at the Community Foundation. Our lawyer put language in the will that allows a percentage of our estate to go to the Legacy Fund at the Community Foundation, who will then execute our charitable wishes after our lifetime. This was easy to arrange and permits us to still use our assets during our lives if we need them. Additionally, our Legacy Fund provides the flexibility to update the organizations we wish to support after our lifetime by simply contacting the Community Foundation staff. We don't need to incur the cost of making a change to our will to update our charitable passions.
